Perks of Living in Washington

Living near and working in Washington has a lot of perks. I love that we have access to so much history! There are tons of monuments, memorials, and museums. Walking up and down the mall is nearly always a treat. It’s awesome to drive up 395 and see the Air Force Memorial appear, then the Pentagon, and then the DC skyline.

Today, we had a rare treat, even by DC standards. The Space Shuttle Discovery piggybacked on a 747 and flew around the city at a very low altitude. It was exhilarating to see it fly by so low!

2012 Cherry Blossoms

One of my favorite things about living so close to Washington, DC is the cherry blossoms. It probably comes right after being able to see the Capitol, Washington Monument, and other historical buildings every day. I’m fortunate enough that my drive takes my usual commute takes me right by the Tidal Basin which is where the bulk of the blossoms are. The basin covers an area of about a hundred acres and is lined with cherry trees. Jenny and I went down a couple of times this year. It’s always a little crowded, especially at sunset, but it’s well worth the visit. Here are a couple of my favorite photos from this year’s blossoms:
