H Family part 2

You may remember this family from a post last year. Since then, they’ve had an addition to their family and decided it was time for more family photos. I’m glad they did – while we had a lot of fun last year, it was just way too cold. It was a little warm when we started around 6:30, by 7:00, the temperature was just about perfect. This is a really great family and I look forward to more sessions with them in the future!

The F Family Photos

I always have a lot of fun working with families, but this family may have taken the cake. Their daughter is one of the most adorable little girls I’ve ever met! She was a little shy at first, but about an hour into the session, she put her arms out to come to me. What else could I do? I handed my camera to Jenny and carried her around while we walked to another area of Green Spring Gardens. When we started, she was stingy with her smile, but by the end, she wouldn’t stop smiling. I can’t wait to work with this family again!

McKinley Family Photos

Spring in DC has been unpredictable this year. While we were originally scheduled for March, the sporadic Spring forced me and the McKinley Family to schedule and reschedule several times. As usual, our patience paid off and we were able to have a great session in Fort Ward Park in Alexandria, Virginia. They were naturals in front of the camera and went right into the poses that looked great in front of the camera.

The trickiest part of the session was getting their adorable little boy to smile. You could really see the wheels turning in his head – he knew we wanted him to smile and he just gave a look that said “yeah, I’m going to have fun with this” and would wait to smile until I put my camera down to recompose the shot. When he did muster up a smile, it was contagious and worth the wait.

Lindsey & Rob

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous about taking Lindsey and Rob’s photos. Lindsey’s a photographer, so this would mark the first time I took photos for a colleague. She’s got a great eye, so there’s a good amount of pressure to exceed her expectations. Lindsey and Rob were naturals; they knew how they wanted to pose and they had no qualms goofing off in front of the camera.

They contacted me several weeks ago to setup a photo session. She hoped to have photos taken with the cherry blossoms as the backdrop, so we were excited to see that the bloom forecast matched our schedules. Unfortunately, uncooperative weather forced us to rescheduled two or three times! Although we had to put off our session until mid-April, the blooms were still around for their shoot. Once we got the timing right, everything else seemed to fall into place. They were a real pleasure to work with and I hope to shoot them again in the future!

Mike & Ashlee’s Engagement

I’ve known Mike for quite a while, so when he asked if I’d be willing to take some photos of his proposal to Ashlee, I couldn’t resist. The week had been really nice, so we were hopeful that Saturday would have some good weather – unfortunately, it was frigid! It was really windy and even a few snowflakes falling. I don’t think Ashlee cared though – watching her reaction as Mike got down on one knee was worth braving the chilling temps. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Bessey Family Photos

I’ve been friends with Ryan and Kaylyn for a few years, so I was delighted when they asked me to do their family photos. Kaylyn works for a member of Congress, so she wanted to do photos in one of the House Office Buildings. Since it was 45 degrees that day, anything inside worked for me. We did try and take a few photos in front of the Capitol, but it was too cold and windy. After 15 minutes, we had to call it a day. I’m pretty sure little Jack could’ve lasted a few more hours, but we were done!

Madsen Family Photos

When a client asks me to do a portrait session, I’m always happy to suggest a few of my favorite places. However, when the Madsens told me they’d like some photos done, they suggested a place I’d never been to. Always eager to find new places to photograph, I jumped at the opportunity to work with them at Fort Ward Park in Alexandria, Virginia. I really enjoyed working with Steve and Lindsay! They knew exactly where they wanted to shoot and what poses they wanted to try. It was a great sunset shoot with these two!

H Family Portraits

On Saturday I worked with a great family. We shot at the FDR Memorial by the Tidal Basin. One of the challenges about doing a photo session in November is the cold, but Saturday was an especially chilly day and a bit too windy. The FDR has all sorts of nooks and crannies to help shield you from the wind. This family was a blast to shoot with. The girls are really fun, hyper, and eager to smile. Anyway, on to the fun stuff:

Brittany & Ben’s Wedding

On Saturday, I finished editing Brittany & Ben’s wedding photos! Between shooting a few before their rehearsal dinner and then again on their big day, I could not have had more fun. I also had the best second shooter and assistant a photographer could ask for! Jenny was a champ. She helped me out with posing, capturing moments from different angles, and lugging bags around. I really could not have done it without her!

I also owe Kelli a huge thanks as well! I’ve done a couple of weddings with her and she’s been great to work for and with. If anyone was as excited as I was for my first wedding, it was Kelli. She’s been a great friend and mentor. Thanks, Kelli!

Now, on to the photos. Enjoy!
